New Rules on Cell Phone Use in Ontario Schools

New Rules on Cell Phone Use in Ontario Schools. In this segment from Access Tech Live we’re joined by Karen Littewood, President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. The Ontario government has implemented new rules regarding cell phone use in schools, requiring students in grades K-6 to keep phones out of sight and on silent the entire school day. The government believes that phones are causing distractions in classrooms, but teachers argue that there are larger issues in education that need to be addressed. The use of cell phones in schools has led to cyberbullying, mental health issues, and academic decline. However, cell phones can also be valuable tools for learning. The conversation highlights the need for better resources and support in schools, as well as a culture shift in how both students and adults use technology.
