Global Accessibility Awareness Day Past, Present and Future with Joe Devon. Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) is now in its 13th year and has grown significantly since its inception. In this interview, Steven Scott chats with the co-founder of GAAD, Joe Devon. The first GAAD event was hosted by Yahoo and featured a demonstration of a screen reader by Victor Tsaran. GAAD has evolved to include tech companies doing homepage takeovers and high-profile events like a Stevie Wonder concert and a keynote by Sir Tim Berners-Lee. However, there is concern that some companies are only paying lip service to accessibility without making meaningful changes. The goal of GAAD is to make a difference in accessibility and improve employment opportunities for disabled individuals.
